MISSION STATEMENT

It is the duty of the Wadesville Fire Department to protect lives and property from fire and other emergencies; to respond to emergencies in a professional and courteous manner; to reduce the rate of emergencies through public education and code enforcement.
This statement includes the number one function for all personnel, "protection of life and property conservation." It deals with the importance of fire suppression by the mention of responding to fire emergencies. It stresses the importance of fire prevention, as an important tool to reduce the rate of emergencies through public education and code enforcement.
This statement groups emergency medical responses with other emergencies, so as not to exclude other types of emergencies that we currently respond to, and not to limit the type of responses we may be faced with in the future.

WE NEED YOUR HELP
Recently, the residents of Center Township received income-study questionnaires from the Economic Development Coalition. These surveys were used to pre-qualify the Wadesville Fire Department for an OCRA grant. With the help and support of our community, the Wadesville Fire Department was pre-qualified for the OCRA grant to make and addition to our current fire station. OCRA grants are federal funds used for a multitude of public projects. Wadesville Fire Department is competing against several other Indiana Fire Departments for this grant. This grant has previously helped several other local groups. Past local recipients of this grant were Poseyville Fire Department who used this grant to assist in the purchase of a new Rescue Truck. New Harmony Fire Department received a grant to build a new fire station. The town of Mt. Vernon also received this grant and used it to demolish the old silo on the river front. The office that sent the income-study questionnaires will also be writing the grant proposal. This office had 3 out of 4 of their proposals funded during the last round.
We need your help. Public donations of $10,000, along with an additional $46,000 match from our department, are required to qualify for the grant. All donations are tax deductible and should be made directly to our account at The Posey County Community Foundation’s office located at 402 Main Street in the Old National Bank Building in Mt. Vernon. All donations need to be acquired by the end of the application period (Spring 2012) to qualify. If we can reach those donations we could get an addition to our fire station for $500,000. This will allow us to add a truck bay, offices, a larger training room, living quarters for full time volunteers, and more.
This grant is in no way affiliated with the Wadesville/Blairsville Sewer District and is not a competing project with the Sewer District project. This grant is critical to the growth of our fire department and the community. This will make possible an emergency community shelter and expand our capabilities. We will have the facilities for District 10 Training programs. The sleeping quarters for firefighters will mean around the clock coverage for our community. None of this can happen without the support from the community. If you have any questions related to the grant process, please contact Patrick Fisher at (812) 457-0713 or
